Inter-agencyCollaboration (Promising Strategies to Reduce Gun Violence)

Gunviolence has become a major concern in American society as more andmore cases continue to be recorded involving use of guns among theyouths as well as among the adults. Over the past decade, the gunviolence, menace has resulted to all concerned laws enforcingagencies as well as the Americans to come into the union orcollaboration in order to find the relevant and effective solutionsof the problem. One of the major positive developments that have beenimplemented is the collaboration of the relevant offices such as thepolice force, prosecutors, schools, social service organizations, thecourt systems among others (Bilchik, 1999). This paper looks intodifferent strategies implemented to reduce the menace of gun violencein the American community through the collaborative initiative. Gunrelated violence has been a threat to people’s safety and health inAmerica.

PositiveAspects of the Collaborative Initiative

Thereare numerous advantages associated with the collaborative initiative. One of the major positive development is the fact that, each of thegroup involved has learned that each has the ability to contribute, mobilize as well as implementing resources in crime prevention, aswell as understanding the importance of each group’s contribution.Through the collaboration process, the community is able to identifyand recognize the gun violence problem facing them. In addition, thecollaboration ingenuity helps to develop an all-inclusive andcomprehensive vision plan to curb the menace. Moreover, thecollaboration initiative helps to mobilize and sustain gun-violencereduction actions. The initiative helps to develop and implement aleadership structure. Through the enforcement of the initiative, keyinstitutional administrators are involved in the plans as keypartners with the main objective or the intended goals. Finally, through the collaboration process, there is adequate access toresources, which are essential in achieving, the desired goals(Bilchik, 1999).

LessEssential Partner, To the Initiative and Reasons Why

Throughthe numerous parties involved each of the plays a role towards theobjective of minimizing, and controlling the gun violence problem. However, among the involved parties, which entails law enforcers, elected officials from both local and state levels, prosecutors, community organizations, judges and other policy makers, the policymakers have their impact of the initiative reduced. Policy makers ina brief definition are referred as members who are given theauthority to set policies of an organization or country. Through thejuvenile justice department, there are laid policies to guide in theprocess. The initiative of the collaborative is to reduce thenegative impact of the gun violence and in turn implementing the lawas described through the juvenile justice docket. This in turn callsfor the lesser foundation of new policies to help in the initiative.Through the juvenile justice department, there are laws that havebeen set to guide the department. Rarely do these laws need frequentadjustments or amendments. Moreover, the constitution has a set oflaws that should be implemented when dealing with such asall-inclusive initiative, thus having a reduced role of policy makersin the initiative. However, despite their lesser contribution towardsthe objective, their role is key to the success of the collaborationinitiative (Cook, 2013).

CriminalJustice Entity That Could Enhance the Success of the Initiative

Criminaljustice entails a set of agencies, which are formed to control crimesand impose penalties to people, who violates the laws. The entitycomprises of components such as law enforcement, prosecution, defenseattorneys, courts, and the corrections. One of the entities thatwould be effective in enhancing the success of the collaborativeinitiative is the correction officers and the department. Thecorrections would help in providing the relevant resources as well aspersonnel’s to make the follow up on the convicted people in thesociety and help them to make positive changes. Whether working injails, prisons or within the community on parole or probation, thecorrectional officer’s contribution would effectively in guidingtowards realization of the collaborative initiative objectives. Thecorrection officers help to implement the relevant aids for t changetowards the intended direction and in turn helping to curb thegun-related violence in the community and among the youth (Webster&amp Vernick, 2013).

Non-CriminalJustice Entity That Could Have Enhanced the Success of the Initiative

Despitethe enormous contribution by the criminal justice entities,non-criminal justice entities equally plays key role in therealization of the initiative. One of such influential elementtowards the success of the initiative is the ‘National SchoolSafety Centre’. This was formed through justice and educationdepartments, which has had its key focus on finding solutions toproblems that interrupt education processes. Through theestablishment, the focus has been set on efforts to rid schools ofcrimes, substance abuse, and violence in addition to improvingstudents discipline and achievement/performance as well as improvingoverall school climate. The formation of the entity has also helpedinclude the community and the youths in the primary course ofimproving their lives through avoidance of engaging in gun violence(Bilchik, 1999).

Inconclusion, the collaboration initiative has been effective infighting the gun violence menace in the community. Despite themagnitude of the menace, the collaboration has made tremendoussuccess in the fight against the problem in the society. Moreover, through the initiative communities as well as the relevant entitieshas been brought together towards a common initiative of improvingthe Americans lives, security and health through the fight to reduceand contain the gun-violence menace.
