The registered Nurse interviewed in this study was Eleanor Teare Booth.The interview was carried out at St Francis College where the nurse works part time. The interview study was conducted on 7 February 2015.

  1. Describe your career path to your current position. Include information about education and experiences.

The nurse graduated from nursing program in the University of Washington in Seattle Washington, which is rated among the universities offering nursing program. To obtain a nursing license she passed an exam for national licensing. She currently serves as a nurse in Copeman Healthcare Centre. The nurse served as a cadet nurse in a period of two years between 29th December 2006 and 4 November 2008. Her part time job involves motivating upcoming nurses who are still at school.

  1. Discuss the value of best evidence as a driving force in delivery of nursing care at your facility.

The value of best evidence as a driving force in delivery of nursing care is achieved by minimizing errors through proper documentation, insufficient communication and inaccurate data.

  1. What safeguards and decision-making support tools are embedded in patient care technologies and information systems that support safe practice at your facility?

Use of nursing informatics and technology this is a specialty where knowledge and advanced skills are used to manage, process and transform data into information.

  1. Tell me about patient care technologies that have improved patient care at your facility.

According to the interviewee recent technology such as purse oxymetry which before its use the nurses depended on checking the patient mental status and his or ski color in order to detect change in oxygen in a patient.

  1. What groups of healthcare workers rely on you to collect high-quality information or data and how is it utilized?

The availability of efficient and quality data makes it easy for doctors to offer patients quality healthcare. Thus, data is stored using electronic health record, this improves the capability of healthcare professionals and guides them in decision making.

  1. Please tell me what challenges you have faced in dealing with other disciplines who may not “understand the needs of nurses/nursing?”

According to the registered nurse most people in other discipline tends to confuse her roles and duties. There are those who believe that she can offer treatment to patients.

  1. Please share an example of how GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) impacted a decision related to your information or data collection.

An example given on how GIGO impacted a decision related to the nurse information or data collection was in a case involving a diabetes patient who suffered from decreased insulin in the body. The nurse recorded the opposite that the patient had increased sugar an error that almost resulted in the death of the patient.

  1. Please give me an example of how the lack of interprofessional collaboration impacted your role.

According to the nurse lack inter-professional collaboration led her to be left behind on so many issues such availability of new technology. Thus, through maintaining inter-professional collaboration she is able to improve the quality of healthcare.

  1. Please describe what a typical day on the job is like for you.

A typical day for the nurse involved coordinating and providing patient care, taking patients to get a CT scan. Moreover she helps in setting and casting the broken bones. Lastly every morning she had to go through a list of patients records to get an understanding of the diagnosis needed.

Completing this interview will impact my practice as a BSN prepared nurse by preparing me on what to expect once I become a registered nurse. Moreover, learning from her mistakes such as entering wrong data on the diabetes patient will help in avoiding such errors.
